Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Stud.IP installation (version 6.0) of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), which is available at https://studip.uni-giessen.de.
As the operator, JLU strives to make this website accessible in accordance with the applicable legal provisions:
•    Hessian Law on Equality for People with Disabilities (Hessian Disability Equality Act—HessBGG)
•    Hessian Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (BITV HE 2019)

Status of Compliance with Requirements

This Stud.IP installation is not fully compliant with the accessibility regulations that apply to us. Specifically:

• Heading hierarchies are not fully and consistently maintained on some pages.

• In some cases, images, controls, and graphic elements lack alternative text, have incorrect alternative text, or have insufficient alternative text.

• In some cases, graphics and controls lack proper markup, so they are not correctly recognized by assistive technologies.

• Language switches are sometimes inconsistent or not marked.

• Lists, tables, and forms are largely not correctly marked up.

• Calendars are not accessible (e.g., room occupancy schedules, personal calendars, class schedules—planners—).

• The minimum contrast requirements are not met everywhere.

• Keyboard navigation is not fully accessible.

• The homepage lacks explanations about the website in plain language and in German Sign Language.

• Robust, cross-platform, cross-browser, and cross-device use of the website is not fully guaranteed.

In addition, content uploaded to the platform by users, such as PDF documents or videos, may contain accessibility barriers. Barriers may also result from the Stud.IP plug-ins (program extensions) used.

Rationale

JLU’s Stud.IP installation is very extensive and complex. Various JLU departments are involved in its operation. It is used primarily in academic studies, teaching, and administration.

In further developing the platform’s accessibility, JLU relies on the available resources and implementation capabilities of the Stud.IP development community. Technical implementation—and thus also accessible design—is the responsibility of the developer community.

Despite great care, training programs, and support from central JLU departments, editorial oversights regarding accessibility cannot be completely ruled out when creating content. A large number of documents (file formats for office applications, primarily in PDF format) are also made available via Stud.IP. Accessibility for these documents is not guaranteed. However, we strive to ensure the accessibility of these documents as part of our review and update processes.

Through training programs, we promote the knowledge and skills of JLU members in creating PDF documents that are as accessible as possible.
