Improving your visibility is fundamental for a successful career in academia. Hence, this workshop aims at delineating how exhibitions, which serve as essential means of communicating research to the public, result in an increased (or extended) visibility. In fact, exhibitions not only enhance the own visibility and networking, but also foster the knowledge transfer both within the scientific community and with regard to non-specialists.
Preparing scientific content in an appealing and understandable way for a broad audience is a major challenge; thus, we will discuss among others the following questions: How can audience interest be aroused? How do I design an overall concept for the exhibition? How do I design appealing texts? Indeed, exhibition texts are the heart of every exhibition and therefore require special investigation since they are characterized by their shortness as well as their specific affordances and constraints that we will also reflect on.
At the end of the workshop, we will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and I will share my experience that I have gained organising and managing the exhibition “Vergessene Poetin / Poétesse oubliée: Anna de Noailles (1876-1933)”.
This workshop is part of the series "Short Forms, Big Impact: Brevity as a Tool in Research, Teaching, and Communication". This summer semester, five short hands-on workshops will be dedicated to the topic of short forms in the study of culture. Several aspects of academic training and practice, - especially with regard to academic communication, writing, and teaching, - will be examined to explore the ubiquity and affordances of short forms. Participants of the workshops will engage in conversation about concepts, didactic tools, and concrete ideas for using short forms in interdisciplinary academic contexts. The workshops can be attended independently of each other. Everyone interested is welcome!
