Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this block tutorial, we will explore traditional Chinese landscape painting through brush, ink, water, and xuan paper.
We will begin with close observation of natural forms such as trees, rocks, mountains, clouds, and mist. Along the way, you will learn basic brush-and-ink techniques and important principles of Chinese landscape composition.
The focus is not simply on copying traditional motifs or creating beautiful effects. We will use observation, experimentation, imagination, and reflection to develop our own artistic ideas and images.
We will also explore ideas about nature in Chinese landscape painting and reflect on the relationship between humans and nature in the context of today’s ecological challenges.
Over two intensive weekends, we will move from practical exercises and material experiments to individual and collaborative artworks.
No previous experience in Chinese painting is required. The tutorial language will be English.
